Point me in the Direction of Albuquerque, The Partridge Family

Gramma Nettie's Old Time Radio Memories.

This is song number 2 on side 1 of the Partridge Family Album.

Written by Tony Romeo, who also wrote the hit song, “I Think I Love You.”  He also wrote songs for The Seekers, The Everly Brothers, as well as jingles for Breck Shampoo, Pall Mall cigarettes, and Scripto lighters (Wikipedia, Tony Romeo, 2023).

Lyrics from AZLyrics (AZLyrics, 2023)

"Point Me In The Direction Of Albuquerque"

Window walkin' downtown, feelin' mighty good
And I noticed from the corner how all alone she stood
Underneath the lamplight, an angel in disguise
Lonely little runaway with teardrops in her eyes

Crazy little ragdoll, her hair was wild and tossed
And I put my arm around her 'cause I knew that she was lost
She didn't seem to notice that anyone was near
'Til suddenly she turned to me and whispered in my ear

Point me in the direction of Albuquerque
I want to go home and help me get home
Point me in the direction of Albuquerque
I need to get home, need to get home

Showed me a ticket for a Greyhound bus
Her head was lost in time
She didn't know who or where she was
"And anyone that helps me is a real good friend of mine"
(Real good friend of mine)

Point me in the direction of Albuquerque
And help me get home, help me get home

Walked her to the station and kissed away the tears
Knowing I'd remember through all the coming years
Ragdoll on that Greyhound who waved with all her might
Weeped against the window as the bus rolled out of sight

Point me in the direction of Albuquerque
I want to go home and help me get home
Point me in the direction of Albuquerque
I need to get home, need to get home
Point me in the direction of Albuquerque
I need to get home, need to get home

Brand New Me, The Partridge Family Album

The first album I posted was the Partridge Family Album.    The song is Brand New Me.

It was recorded in 1970, and appeared in the TV episode called "But the Memory Lingers On."

Lyrics are as follows:

Come on down off of your cloud
Why just be a face in the crowd
You can remember that once upon a love affair
Your heart was warm, your lips were tender and I didn't care, baby

You're gonna see (you're gonna see)
A brand new me in me (a brand new me)
It's you that's on my mind this time (I really love you)
I'll be around, I'll never let you down (won't be the same)
Can't you see my feet are on the ground

I've had my fill of fooling around
Ain't no life just being a clown
I heard the weather report and it said sunny today
How did he know that you would show up to love each day, baby

You're gonna see (you're gonna see)
A brand new me in me (a brand new me)
It's you that's on my mind this time (I'll be a new man)
I'll be around, I'll never let you down (won't be the same)
Can't you see my feet are on the ground

You're gonna see
A brand new me in me
It's you that's on my mind this time
I'll be around, I'll never let you down
Can't you see my feet are on the ground

You're gonna see
A brand new me in me
It's you that's on my mind this time
I'll be around, I'll never let you down
Can't you see my feet are on the ground

Following is from the album itself, as I put on the youtube post.

Gramma Nettie's Old Time Radio memories, a collection of vinyl albums and singles. I do not own this music, and have no claims to it. See references below for information. I do, however, own the album. The Partridge Family Album, Side 1, Track 1, Brand New Me From the Back of the Album Cover "The family that reverbs together remains together – that’s Shirley Partridge and her plugged-in tribe of youngsters who turn on the plot power for ABC Television’s newest musical comedy series “The Partridge Family.” "The on-tour antics of this family who have formed their own pop music group provide some entirely new sight and sound vistas for the television audience. Academy Award winner (“Elmer Gantry”) Shirley Jones stars as a widow Shirley Partridge, the head of this upbeat brood of musical chickens. David Cassidy is featured as her rock-wired son Keith. Susan Dey makes her TV debut as Laurie, the teen-aged pacifist who backs any meaningful cause. Danny Bonaduce steps out as the 10 year old, fast-moving, freckle-faced money wizard of the Partridges. As the spirited, red-haired catalyst of the Partridge clan, Danny is always prepared to propel the family into any kind of situation as long as it is for fun and finances. "The natural foil of this pint-sized manipulator is Reuben Kinkaid, their harassed manager. Dave Madden, of “Laugh-in” fame co-stars in this role. In the roles of Christopher, the 7 year old drummer, and 4 year old Tracy, are Jeremy Gelbwaks and Suzanne Crough. Simone, a dog who digs today’s music, completes the Partridge entourage. And the family bus – a psychedelic-painted happening on wheels – moves the partridges in high style and high gear from one delightful adventure to still another. "Each episode, of course, is punctuated by the kind of original music which will soon make the Partridges the first family of the record world as well as television’s in-clan. This album contains songs featured in those initial Partridge Family episodes and also includes their first recording “I Think I Love You.” "The Partridges certainly represent something new in family interaction – it’s the kind of vibrant home scene highlighted by wholesome portions of love mixed with laughter and positively accentuated by the notes of music and song which bring it all together – for everyone!"  According to Wikipedia, The Partridge Family Album was the first of eight albums.  It was released in October 1970, a month after the TV musical sitcom started.  The original release of the album included a framed colour photograph of the group.  My album does not, so it was a subsequent production.  There were also copies of the album promoting the hit single “I Think I Love You,” but again, mine is not that copy.

Other studio albums include Up to Date; Sound Magazine; A Partridge Family Christmas Card; Shopping Bag; The Partridge Family Notebook; Crossword Puzzle; Bulletin Board.  Also:  At Home with Their Greatest Hits; The World of the Partridge Family; Greatest Hits; The definitive Collection; Come On Get Happy!; The Very Best of The Partridge Family.

Welcome to Gramma Nettie's Old Time Radio memories!

This is where I will share all my vinyl records, and whatever else plays on the turntable.  I hope to include some historical things about each song, as well.  Some of these I remember, but most are pretty new to me.  But, since they are old, they need to be preserved.  This is the way I choose to preserve my collection.

Enjoy.  Subscribe to my youtube channel, and to this blog.
